What does “healthy life” mean?
Living a healthy life is advertised everywhere, but it is far less “normal” than our TV, movies, and other media portrays. You can google “health products” and you will see a list of blogs offering tips to a healthier life. The demand for education on healthy living is high but it’s the time we need to integrate these tips that is low.
Using better health products took me from googling health tips to building better habits. It’s easy to get in a habit of eating frozen dinners, fast food, and pre-cooked meals that we can heat up in the microwave. I am guilty of this as well. But having the items below has helped me be more mindful of my health needs in the midst of all the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Good health improves my energy
Our physical health is the pillar to our overall health. When we are improving our physical health it impacts our way of thinking, decreases our health risks, and improves our overall mood.
Best products to reach your health goals
Living healthy is ideal, but in reality it’s not easy. Life gets busy, time gets away from us, and before we know it the intention to improve our health is now a goal we never accomplished. I would be hard pressed to say I easily manage to live healthier with my busy schedule. However, incorporating a bit each day has proven to be helpful. And there are products that make this possible. Here is a list of the things that have helped me:
- An air fryer
- A blender
- A fitbit
- A bike (cruiser)
I talked about wanting an air fryer for two months, yet never actually bought it. The idea of quick meals that improve my health make me happy. On my birthday my parents purchased an air fryer for me! They did not order it from amazon but it is similar to this air fryer I had my eye on. I’m not the best at cooking (I want to change that in 2020) so this has come in handy. Sometimes when my mom is cooking dinner for us she will place my portion to the side so that I may put it in the air fryer instead of putting it in grease. This slight gesture has been really helpful.
The air fryer also comes with a small booklet of recipes to make. All the food I have tried thus far has been delicious. The timing ranges from 5 to 20 minutes, depending on the meal. It is my hope to upgrade to the ninja air fryer soon. This will allow me to increase the types of meals that I make. The Ninja FD401 Foodi has multiple compartments which include dehydrating, steaming, and air fry my food. It can also make larger portions than my current air fryer and that will help with meal prepping.
My biggest challenge for living healthy was eating a balanced breakfast. I would simply skip breakfast altogether! Then I got into the habit of eating some fruit. But the best way to incorporate all the nutrients I need – vegetables, fruit, oats, and flax seeds – is by making a smoothie! I have a small blender that I’ve used since I was in college. This blender was $20 at Walmart! It is a single served cup that I can fill, blend, flip over and go.
My blender from Walmart may take a few spins to completely blend all my ingredients. I’ve had it for about 3 years now so it’s reasonably worn out as well, and it has served its purpose until now. I’ve had this blender for awhile and I want to buy the ninja soon. I see it every time I login to amazon.
Just like my Walmart blender, my Fitbit has been with me for 3 years as well. Full disclosure, my Fitbit Alta broke and I was too busy adjusting to my big girl job to care about replacing the band (which is easy and affordable). So I admittedly took a year off and upgraded to the Fitbit Versa 2 three months ago. Literally, I threw the Fitbit in the trash because life was spinning like a merry go round and I had no more room for any horses.
Fitbit Versa 2 has a bit more features than the Fitbit Alta. I am now able to see more on my screen, namely my heart rate. The deciding factor on my upgrade was the ability to track my heart rate, a feature the Fitbit Alta did not have 3 years ago, but has now.
The “relax” feature is an absolute FAVORITE! Relax mode is a breathing exercise. The watch calculates your breathing rhythm and carves out a two minute breathing session for you where you follow the circle by inhaling and exhaling. At the end of the session there is a summary of your alignment and your heart rate change, if any.
I also use this watch to count my steps. My goal is to have 11,000 steps per day. I try to have at least 6,000 steps before the work day is over. This leaves 5,000 steps and encourages me to do more than lay down and binge my favorite shows once I get home.
Spending thirty minutes to an hour working out is not always possible each day. Staying moving throughout the day is a nice alternative. Counting my steps and getting reminders from my Fitbit to “get up and move” helps to keep my body active and my energy high.
The product that is easy, fun, and useful is a cruiser bike. Originally I tried to bike everyday after work. But Texas Heat is not friendly so I chose to bike around 7:30pm. I ride around my neighborhood and surrounding areas 30-45 minutes, depending on the day. Avoiding trash day was a lesson I learned the hard way. After realizing an every day schedule did not work for me, I got the most use out of it on the weekends.
Saturday morning cruises are the best. Fresh air, neighbors cutting their grass, cleaning their cars, and enjoying the morning breeze. Now that it’s a little colder and the sun sets about an hour after I get home, I have not used the bike as much. But during the summer and spring times it is not only a way to stay active, it is also fun, and my bike is super cute! Her name is Maggie by the way (inspired by Dr. Pierce from Grey’s Anatomy). Even if you don’t buy it, just click here to see how cute she is (the pineapple water bottle holder really sealed the deal for me).
Common Questions/FAQ About Living Healthy While Being Busy
Below are a few common questions related to busy schedules and healthy living that I wanted to address before you go:
How can you balance your schedule to include healthy eating?
- The best way to get ahead is to plan ahead. Use a weekend to plan out when you’ll exercise, what meals you will prep for the week, what day you will meal prep, and what you will use to track yourself. The products above will help you reach your goals, but the key is to plan AND execute.
How to lose weight while being super busy?
- The truth is that this takes time. No matter if you are super busy or have an open schedule regularly, losing weight does not happen overnight. It takes about 12 weeks to see the results, but you feel the results immediately. So my challenge to you is start, stay committed, and track your progress!
What do I eat when I am too busy to cook?
- The honest answer is that you will have to carve at least 30 minutes out of your day. 20 for cooking and 10 for eating, if you’re pressed for time. My favorite go to is vegetables, chicken, and rice. It’s a quick, easy, and portable meal. This meal can be eaten for lunch and dinner, some variations can be made with swapping out the meat and veggie options. Using the air fryer to cook your chicken and steam your vegetables will save you time, keep you healthy, and hardly put a dent in your schedule. Check out this cookbook for more easy meals to make with the air fryer.
